Event Report
The program started sharply at 4:30 PM. The kids were having their day and were coming over to the stage and recognizing their Lamps and showing it off to their parents/friends. That was a very good and encouraging sign. As all good things must begin with Ganesha haadu, our kids started off with Ganeshana Haadu (because of this the program went of really well!). We should really be thank to Dr.Poorna for teaching violin to so many folks because of which we have a violin performance every year from one of his students. This year, his student Ashwini gave an excellent violin performance. Then we had the much awaited "Onde Karnataka" dance. Lot of efforts were put in for the dance and it went on great. Thanks to all the parents in sending their kids for practice and also making sure that each and everyone of them had same colored costume. After this Navya recited the Basavanna Vachana and also explained the meaning in English!. In the next program Rekah and Meera did an excellent job tried to portray the significance of Deepavali as well as the things we do for Deepavali in a humorous way. A wonderful idea conceptulized by Meera. Then we got to hear Vinutha sing a classical song,so well. Then the skit by the kids was really hilarious too! Good job kids!. The Magic show was cool! The concept of using placards to make the crowd interact was in innovative concept used in the Magic show. Prize distribution was also fun and hope the kids loved those trophies. But the best part was giving out goodie bags to all the kids who did not participate also. The all women drama was excellent. Woman Power! Go Women! Go! Dinner was good. We catered food for this event and the the food committee did a great job for making a sweet deal with Udupi Cafe. Quiz was good too and it was an allround questionnaire. Raffle ticket idea was great because it induces a sense of participation among the non participant crowd. Last but not the least, "Adarsha Dampathigalu" was fun. We hope to have more programs like this which involves adults. The Best Dressed Couple contest was won by Vrinda and Ravi Kosgi. The Aadarsh Damapatigalu contest was won by Satish and Nivedita.

Donate as you play - Tennis Tournament
Place: Blue Valley Northwest High
13260 Switzer Rd
Overland Park, KS 66213
Date: Saturday August 2, 2003
Time: 7:15 AM onwards

We are delighted to announce the first Sport event on behalf of KAKC for this year. More delightful is the fact that we are organizing this fun event to serve a great cause. Yes, we are talking about the much awaited "Tennis
Doubles Tournament" here. It will be held on August 2, 2003 at the tennis grounds of Blue valley Northwest High. So, it's time now to find a doubles partner, brush up your skills, and get ready for the competition. Feel free to forward this invitation to all your friends.

There will be an entry fee of $5 per person to enter the tournament and all proceeds thus collected will be contributed to Vidyaranya Nanduri Leukemia Fund. Vidyaranya Nanduri is a graduate student pursuing Master's degree in
Mathematics at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

He was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (cancer of the bone marrow), on January 17, 2003, and is currently undergoing treatment at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center - St. Francis Campus, Wichita, Kansas.

On January 22, 2003, his treatment was initiated with an induction chemotherapy for one week. After weeks of treatment and another round of chemotherapy the doctors determined that he will have to undergo a bone marrow transplant for his survival. The total cost is now estimated to be anywhere from a few hundred thousands to a million US dollars. His current health insurance policy covers only up to 50% of the costs incurred.

All proceeds collected in this sport event will be contributed to
Vidyaranya's cancer treatment.

Event Report

It was a very successful event with a greater than expected turnout. A true example of what we can do as a team for a good cause.

About 25 teams participated in the event and trophy was won by the very deserving team of Ravi Baburajan and  Ramesh (The Amli Aces). It was good to see how their dedicated, regular practice paid-off. Thanks to the
excellent PR work by our members, we even had participants from other states, other countries.

The event was conducted for the  benefit of Vidyaranya Nanduris leukemia fund. All in all, we have collected $800 from KAKC. Thanks to the participants in the tournament, people who came to the event just to donate and our members who used all kinds of means to make people aware of the cause.

Again, congratulations to the team for a successful event for a worthy cause. Thanks to all the volunteers who got out of their sweet sleep on a
Saturday morning to make the event a great success. Thanks to all the volunteers who were ever enthusiastic to post flyers, bring supplies, provide logistical help.

The funds collected have been sent to Nanduri with a note on behalf of KAKC.
